Your Onsite and RTM Custom Home Builders

Ridgeview Homes has been Manitoba and Saskatchewan’s trusted home builder for over eight years. We have an experienced team that stands behind every single one of our projects and goes above and beyond to make the home of your dreams a reality.

About Us

Kelly has been in and around the home building trade for 18 years. Together with his family, he started Ridgeview Homes in 2010, which has since gained a reputation for quality craftsmanship and a hard work ethic – values instilled from his Mennonite and German heritage.

Steel Piles instead of Cinder Blocks

We are the only RTM builder in Manitoba and Saskatchewan that builds on steel piles instead of cinder blocks. A typical RTM builder has their beams set on pads and cinder blocks. We have invested time and money to build your house on steel piles. This means your house is built straight and stays straight no matter the weather or the season.

Our Advantage

We are passionate about the houses we build but most importantly, we care about the people who own them. Our RTM yard is Kelly’s yard and the boardroom table doubles as a dining table.

With Ridgeview Homes there are no pressure sales, just coffee and cookies – but no cookie cutter houses.

No Unnecessary Overhead

When you partner with us, we carefully supervise your project, while cutting out all the unnecessary costs so your money is going toward the people who actually build your house – framers, plumbers, electricians, etc. Plus, you save us the commute, so we save you the extra costs!

Testimonials

We would just like to give a great big THANK YOU to Kelly at Ridgeview Homes for the excellent experience we had working with him. We had narrowed our search to a few builders, and after meeting with all of them, we felt like we were in good hands with Kelly. Not only did the price point allow our dream home to become a reality, but he delivered with excellence, timeliness and professionalism. Even when we had questions or concerns about the process and various options, he treated us with respect and patience. We would HIGHLY recommend choosing Ridgeview Homes as your builder, and we have already been passing Kelly’s number to anyone we can. Also, do not be afraid of distance, as Kelly was able to contract with high quality, professional movers that delivered our house safe and sound over 500km from Steinbach!

We could not be more pleased with, or grateful for, our home built by Kelly Harder and Ridgeview Homes. We were extremely fortunate to have come upon Kelly when we needed a contractor to tear down our old cottage and build us a new, modern retirement home.

Our location and topography presented many challenges, but we trusted Kelly to navigate them, and he did so with expertise, good humour, and superb sub-contractors, equipment operators, and tradespeople. We were often on site (maybe too much!?) and were able to meet all the awesome people who worked on our home. We were extremely impressed with the work ethic….the young foundation/framer/siding guys, the drillers and “rock chucker” who all worked from dawn to beyond dusk in the bugs and heat, the cabinet, flooring, tile, drywall, heat and plumbing, insulation, deck, painting, and electrical people who often worked in the cold and dark, as well as reps at Wm. Dyck, all fabulous people who went above and beyond to help us achieve our dream.

It was always such a pleasure too whenever members of Kelly’s lovely family accompanied him to our meetings or site….another bonus! We are so grateful that what started out as a business relationship became one of fun friendship, trust, and respect, and we can look at every part of our beautiful home and remember the amazing people who took part in building it. Not too many people can say that who have had their homes built by one of those large home builders. We don’t hesitate for a second in recommending Kelly Harder and Ridgeview Homes to anyone looking for a quality builder and trusted contractor.

My wife and I love our new home.
I extend my compliments to everyone at Ridgeview Homes, both for the quality of the home’s workmanship and the entire process from build through to moving of the house to our lot at Thomson Lake Regional Park, SK.

From the moment that I first inquired about Ridgeview Homes via e-mail, through the closing and now through our first year plus of ownership, Kelly and his team of contractors have been pleasant, efficient and responsive. Kelly was very timely in responding to any questions or design changes and quotes we requested throughout the project.

We loved that Kelly was able to accommodate our preferences and changes to the original house design. We also have high praise for the contractors that Kelly used during construction, particularly the cabinet contractor (Silverpine Cabinets) as they did an amazing job under tight timelines. Our home was finished on time and the move occurred on time as well, which was critical, as the move occurred in December.

Thanks again to Kelly and Ridgeview Homes for building us a home we will love and enjoy for many years to come. We have told everyone who has asked how pleased we are with our new home, and will continue without hesitation to recommend your company.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a mover?
Yes and no. We don’t own a moving company but we work with Martens Building Movers. Martens is a third-generation moving company that has some of the best equipment in the business including air ride dollies to make sure your new home arrives in the best condition it can.
Will there be damage from the move?
Yes, there will be some minor drywall cracking. Anything more than that is very rare but if something were to happen, Ridgeview Homes and the mover will take full responsibility in getting the drywall or any other damages back to the original condition.
What type of foundation do I need for an RTM?
You can place an RTM on either a crawlspace or a full basement. At Ridgeview Homes we are big fans of basements when the ground conditions allow for one. Dollars per square foot, basements will double your square footage for less than half the price. We also recommend using I.C.F, (Insulated Concrete Forms) for a dry, well-insulated living space.
When does it make sense to buy an RTM rather than building onsite?
There are several things to consider when deciding on whether an RTM is the way to go for your situation. We find that one of the major factors is your location. When you live further away from quality materials and quality tradesman, it will cost you more to have them come to your job site to build your home. In our area, we have an abundance of retailers to give us competitive pricing on the materials we need and an abundance of quality tradesman to get your house built without incurring any extra travel or lodging costs. Plus, building on our yard, we can often build a home faster than on a job site because we are on a clean level job site and we have all our equipment and extra materials onsite already. Other things to consider are if you have the room to move an RTM onto your site and what style and size of home you are wanting. RTMs can be a lot more than the small rectangular boxes many people think they are. We are sometimes limited by size for what can be moved efficiently to your location but in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta it typically isn’t a problem to move houses well over the 2000 square feet. However, there are some shapes and certain heights that make building onsite way easier.
What kind of floor plans can we build?
Size and loading regulations sometimes limit RTMs – whereas onsite building is only limited by your lot size and wallet – but other than that, we can custom design anything that will work for your needs and budget. The World Wide Web also has got hundreds of thousands of plans available for you to look at. If you find something close to what you like, we are happy to make whatever changes you need to suit your family and budget.
How long does it take to build an RTM or onsite home?
The actual building process of most RTMs can be done around four months to the finished stage, or if you choose a home at the drywall stage, it will be closer to two months. For onsite builds, there are a lot more factors that can change the length of it but an average time would be around six months. The part that can take longer in either situation would be the design and permit process. Getting the perfect plan and all the drawings needed for building can easily take two to three months. We can’t stress enough to take the time in the beginning to get all the details figured out. You will be happier with the finished product and it will cost less to build in the end.
Can we make changes once we start?
The quick answer is yes, we are a custom home builder. The “custom-er” is always involved. That said, some changes will incur extra charges depending on how they affect the work that has been done already or needs to be done. That is something that we will discuss with you in each circumstance.
How do RTMs compare to a regular house built onsite?
Our RTMs are built the same as our onsite homes with a couple of additions to add strength for the move. We add an extra rim board around the joists, and we sheet the interior ceiling with 7/16” OSB before the drywall to add some rigidness to the interior structure. Everything else is the same top-quality products throughout.
